The Resurrection and loving people
The resurrection and loving people
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. (1Cor.15:51-52 ESV)
Truth be told, I don’t like everyone, all of the time. Being a pastor, that may come as a shock to some, but there are some people that I struggle being patient with. Can you relate? This may be a family member or classmate you routinely look down on, shrug off or speak unkindly to. Can God change us to love AND like these people?
One answer comes from a very unexpected place, God’s promise of the resurrection. A day is coming when believers will all be very, very different. Bodies will be raised in a new nature, and the soul without sin. One day, believers will be raised in the glory that now belongs to God alone. And God Himself will be there. This life is short, what follows is eternal.
The resurrection helps us see believers in their future glory now. Our words and actions, are to help them become what they will certainly one day be. This is the same for unbelievers. Do your words and actions help others towards this?
Heavenly Father, I pray you would make the resurrection the lense through which I see and love people. Amen.
